Olivia Newton-John Lends Support.
Los Angeles - Roller skates, leg warmers, satin pants! An era not forgotten. Xanadu Live! hits the L.A. stage with Amy Pietz (Caroline In The City, The Weber Show) and husband, stage and screen actor Kenneth Alan Williams executive producing the world premiere stage adaptation of the 1980 film musical. Xanadu Live will debut in Los Angeles, October 11, with all proceeds from the show benefiting breast cancer research and Broadway Cares/Equity Actors Fight AIDS.
Olivia Newton-John lends her support to the show: "I am thrilled that after 20 years Xanadu is being celebrated live on stage. And I am moved that they have chosen to benefit a cause that is close to my heart. I hope Xanadu Live! will be a hit!"
Amy Pietz adds, "When I saw Annie Dorsen’s adaptation at the Williamstown Theater Festival it was the most fun I have had at a theater in many, many years. That’s why I wanted to bring it to L.A. I want everyone on their feet dancing by the end of the of the show."
Adapted, conceived and directed by Yale School of Drama graduate Annie Dorsen, Xanadu Live! will open in Los Angeles (October 11 through November 11, 2001) at the Gascon Theater (8737 Washington Blvd., Culver City). Xanadu Live! features a cast of 24 who roller skate, dance and lip synch their way through the songs of fantasy, dreams and love lost and found. Colorfully costumed actors and dancers mimic the actual film performances in a loving homage to the celebratory feel of the movie with all its wonder of the pre AIDS, pre Reagan, late disco early 1980’s.
